Accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in intellectual property (IP) law, David is a Partner in our Intellectual Property and Information Technology Department. David’s expertise covers areas such as IT procurement and outsourcing, data protection and freedom of information compliance, e-commerce, merchandising and sponsorship, the protection, management and commercialisation of IP and general commercial contracts.
Examples of work recently undertaken include advising a housing association on the outsourcing of its IT support arrangements, advising an asset management company on its outsourcing arrangements, advising a US headquartered software group on the intra-group international transfer of personal data and assisting a Scottish based company with the international protection of its brands.
David is a contributor to Green’s Practice Styles (published by W. Green/Sweet & Maxwell), a main-stay of any Scottish law library, co-authoring the intellectual property styles which form part of that work. He is also a member of the Licensing Executives Society, a regular attendee at events held by the Scottish Society for Computers and Law and holds the Information Systems Examinations Board (ISEB) Certificate in Freedom of Information. David is regularly invited to speak at legal conferences and seminars and has chaired CLT (Scotland)’s annual “Freedom of Information & Data Protection” conference every year since 2006.
