Summer Placements

Selection for traineeship is normally carried out through our summer placement programme. We place a lot of value on our scheme which provides both the Firm and prospective trainees with the opportunity to get to know each other. Experience has taught us that a successful summer placement scheme for both the Firm and the student is an excellent foundation on which to build a career.

We are looking for enthusiastic and able summer placement students who will make a real impact and potentially join our trainee programme.

The main function of the summer student experience is to provide you with an opportunity to work alongside experienced practitioners who will provide a practical insight into the day to day aspects of working in a commercial law firm.

Your time with us will focus on the workings of the Firm and how we deliver our service to our clients. During your two week placement you will also be involved in extra-curricular activities.

Key factors we take consider when recruiting for our summer placement programme include:

  • Academic ability linked with common sense
  • The ability to analyse and solve problems
  • Drive and enthusiasm to go the extra mile to get results
  • Ability to handle responsibility and show initiative
  • Professionalism
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a team environment
  • Good IT skills and computer literacy

Traineeships

McClure Naismith offers a traineeship that is both challenging and rewarding.

We provide a supportive learning environment and recruit with the intention of retaining our trainees. Our traineeship is therefore designed to develop your legal expertise and your client care skills. During your traineeship you will work closely with our legal teams and management teams which should equip you with all of the skills required of any modern lawyer.

The Law Society requires you to attend the Professional Competence Course (PCC). We are currently applying to the Law Society to provide the course in-house. By providing the course in-house you will have the benefits of:

  • a course designed to dovetail with the type of work done by trainees in the firm;
  • continuous support during the PCC; and
  • knowing and interacting with the course tutors on a daily basis.
